OUR PROGRAMS
For over 40 years, the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico has worked to protect functional ecosystems in the islands of Puerto Rico and to connect people with nature. Based on these two guiding principles, the Conservation Trust developed and implemented a wide variety of programs aimed at:
- acquiring and conserving lands with ecological or historical value,
- fostering land protection at the hands of private property owners,
- managing and restoring ecosystems,
- protecting biodiversity,
- reforesting with native tree species,
- creating public awareness campaigns, and
- encouraging citizen participation at an island-wide level.
Because the Conservation Trust realizes that collaboration is a key element to effective conservation, it has created a strong network of allies
from public, private and NGO sectors at both local and federal levels, in the interest of extending conservation efforts and achieving common goals.
Over the years, the Conservation Trust’s citizen outreach and educational programming has been recognized for its quality and wide range of appeal, from the numerous Encounters with Nature offering participants an intense nature immersion experience, to its diverse selection of workshops for educators, community leaders and the general public. This high-impact approach also creates a great number of environmental stewards every year, from the youngsters who create lifelong relationships with nature through the Summer Nature Immersion Workshops, to the Conservation Trust’s active involvement with schools near its Natural Protected Areas.
